SUP Yoga: One More Way to Play at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool
Glenwood Hot Springs Pool's newest fitness class combines yoga and standup paddleboarding for a workout that's dynamic, challenging and fun!
Take your fitness routine to the mat - a floating mat - at Glenwood Hot Springs. The resort’s new SUP Yoga Fitness Fusion is an aquatic class that combines yoga practice and stand up paddleboarding! Think it sounds hard? Take a deep, centering breath; it’s easier than you think and perfect for both yoga and paddleboarding newbies.
SUP Yoga uses specialized Shaboomee paddleboards that are highly stable. The board’s surface is ideal for practicing poses; deck pads are soft and comfortable on the hands, feet, knees and head, while the diamond-grooved deck is grippy, not slick. Twelve boards also fit perfectly into a lotus-inspired Nelumbo, a SUP docking station that provides even more stability and creates a SUP island for a group teaching environment.
Among the reasons SUP Yoga is ideal for beginners is that even the simplest yoga poses like downward dog or warrior pose, provide instant body awareness checks. If you’re off balance your board will let you know so you can fine tune your postures. More advanced students will find SUP Yoga adds another level of challenge to their workout. In the unlikely event you do lose your balance and fall overboard, laugh it off and climb back on. It’s all part of the fun. Besides, at Glenwood Hot Springs falling into the world’s largest mineral hot springs pool is just another form of hydrotherapy!
SUP Yoga takes place Wednesday mornings though August at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool from 8 – 9:15 a.m. and is hosted in conjunction with Shaboomee Stand Up Paddleboarding. Preregistration is highly encouraged. Prices vary. Please click here for more detailed class information.
