Form, Function, Style: Lodge & Athletic Club Get a New Look

While the recently opened Sopris Splash Zone—a family-friendly new aquatic park—has grabbed the spotlight, behind the scenes other transformations have also taken place at the world-famous hot springs resort. Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and the Athletic Club have a whole new look, offering guests comfort, chic surroundings and modern conveniences.

New furniture at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort

With so much attention on the Sopris Splash Zone, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort’s new aquatic adventure area at the west end of the pool, it’s easy to miss the many other changes that have been more quietly taking place across the property. Since April, the resort has made significant improvements to the overall look and style of the Lodge and Athletic Club.

Beautiful New Interior Welcomes Lodge Guests

The lobby, guest hallways and seating areas on each floor throughout the 107-room Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge have been transformed. “Our goal in this remodel was to make it easier for guests to relax while on vacation here,” Glenwood Hot Springs Director of Operations Kevin Flohr said. “I think we’ve hit the mark with an interior setting that is both elevated and has a sense of the resort’s history. We’ve also made it more convenient for guests to connect to the internet, surf or work if they need to and recharge their devices outside their guest room.”

Inspired by Mother Nature & History

The design takes its cues from the beauty and natural wonder of the hot springs by drawing on geological shapes and colors through flooring, wallcoverings and furnishings. For example, the lobby’s main focal point is a large geode mural and rock-shaped pendant lights that give a nod to the natural formations of the area. Sleek seating areas facilitate conversation, while marble-topped tables with built-in outlets give guests a convenient and communal place to use their devices. Providing a nuanced counterpoint is the resort’s large collection of original Jack Roberts paintings, depicting Western scenes, adorning the walls.

“It was important to the client to preserve the story of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort while providing an updated décor which was family-friendly,” OLC Design Principal and Senior Interior Designer Brenda Amsberry said. “OLC accomplished this by using geometric shapes representative of the surrounding terrain and a modernized blend of funky lines and curves with comfortable, natural elements and forms.”

Public spaces on each floor also received a new look, with wood-like flooring in a chevron pattern, updated soft furnishings and sepia-toned photographs. In the downstairs common area, a historical photo mural is the dominant feature; here guests can congregate, play board games, use the internet and socialize. Freshening the hallways on each floor and creating unity throughout the Lodge is the same blue, gold and brown toned carpeting as in the lobby. Additionally, all guest room doors and trim were replaced to blend with the new décor and fitted with a state-of-the-art lock system that provides the highest level of safety and security for guests with the wave of a key.

Athletic Club Redux

Sharing an entrance with the award-winning Spa of the Rockies, the Athletic Club is now a fraternal twin in looks to its showy neighbor next door. The same serene colors that add a calming vibe to the spa setting currently permeate the remodeled Club lobby. New carpeting features a classic kilim-inspired motif in soft hues of blue, brown and cream. Dark woodwork, leather furnishings, wing-back chairs and more Jack Roberts paintings remind guests of the resort’s rich history, while counter height, marble-topped tables with built-in outlets update the space for users giving Club members and guests a place to meet, connect and recharge.

More to Come

“These Club and Lodge remodel projects are just the start of a multi-year plan designed to update our existing guest areas to improve comfort and style,” Chief Operations Officer and Vice President of Glenwood Hot Springs John Bosco said. “The design complements the coming additions to the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort experience in the next four or five years.”
